Today, the presentation of the complete edition of the Bible in Ukrainian braille took place in Kyiv. One of the most important sources of inspiration and wisdom is now available to the visually impaired people.
After four years of painstaking work, the Religious Centre of Jehovah’s Witnesses presented blind Ukrainians with the most valuable treasure – the complete edition of the Holy Scriptures, printed in braille. This is the first Bible in the history of Ukraine, which allows blind people by means of touch to feel God’s word, while reading it in their native language.
27 volumes, weighing in total 52 kilograms, and if you put them together, they will make almost two meters in length – a real masterpiece of printing skill. Each volume is the result of thousands of hours of work, because it takes more than 6 hours to print one Braille Bible. The cost of such edition is 123 times higher than the cost of the ordinary printed Bible. However, the most important thing is that any visually impaired person can get this Bible completely free of charge. The edition contains not only the text, but also appendices including maps, diagrams of the temple and index of biblical words, which facilitates studying and understanding of the content.
The project initiated by the Religious Centre of Jehovah’s Witnesses is important not only for the spiritual life, but also for the education and cultural development of blind people. This event emphasizes the importance of social integration and equality in access to spiritual knowledge, demonstrating that even in such difficult conditions, concern for others and the desire for good remain adamant.
A copy of the edition was donated by the Religious Centre of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Ukraine to the Central Specialized Library for the Blind named after M. Ostrovsky. Now every blind person can touch the history of humanity, feel the power of faith and find comfort in God’s word. In these difficult times, when the war has brought tremendous challenges to the whole country, the Bible becomes the source of spiritual support and hope.
Even at the beginning of the 20th century, Jehovah’s Witnesses made Bible truth available in “relief font”, namely in braille. Braille publications, including the Bible, are currently published in more than 50 languages around the world.
